Outline of Final Research Achievements |
A new religious phenomenon occurred in the Iu Mien society of northern Thailand. It has features as follows: 1) The construction of permanent shrines. 2) Female shamans conducting rituals. 3) Conducting rituals by songs. There were no such features in traditional rituals. They constructed new religious rituals by restructuring traditional ritual knowledge and knowledge of songs. Its activities were developed as complements of the traditional rituals.
