With the background of domestic market shrinkage due to an aging society and declining population, Japanese major convenience stores have been expanding for overseas markets. This research aims to analyze and rationalize the localization process of Japanese style convenience stores through accumulated actual investigation of each Japanese convenience store’s internationalization. With an example of most globalized convenience store Family Mart, we have clarified the localizing process into Asian areas by comparing internationalization of several Japanese convenience stores. We have also proposed an analysis framework “Business System of Convenience Store”, and explained the relationship between retail internationalization and dynamic capability. Consequently, we have introduced and investigated the embedding concept of retail internationalization.
