Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this research is to examine the economic returns of education and the economic inequality of educational opportunities in each cohort. This research attempted to clarify the economic function of education in post-war Japan. (1) If we investigate private returns to education on the basis of cohort comparison, the total returns of higher education are highest in the cohort which includes baby boomers. (2) The educational attainment model composed of academic results in junior high school and estimated father’s income shows each variable complementarily affects educational attainment. The observed change corresponds to the degree of competition in attending higher education.
