Outline of Final Research Achievements

We have been screening for the possible candidates of the meiotic DNA replication checkpoint linking pre-meiotic DNA replication and recombination. We found that meiotic forkhead transcription factor Mei4 is required for this checkpoint. However, we have not found any new factors of the meiotic DNA replication checkpoint linking pre-meiotic DNA replication and the first meiotic division.
We have shown that meiRNA which is a non-coding RNA is required for pre-meiotic S phase in the absence of the pheromone signal. We show that meiRNA regulates the expression of the activator of the transcription factor.
