Examination of 363 nominal species of the family Scorpaenidae revealed that 18 nominal species belonged to the genus Neomerinthe. Nine of the 18 species have been regarded as valid in this study, and two undescribed species have been found. Distributional range, geographic variation, and ontogenetic changes have been revealed for each valid species during this study.
