Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Carbamenem-resistant Bacteroides fragilis often makes treatment difficult. We aimed to identify a novel carbamenem-intermediate resistance factor using a genomic DNA library of the B. fragilis GAI92214 strain. We identified a major facilitator superfamily transporter that may contribute slightly to meropenem resistance in the GAI92214 strain. However, we could not fully explain carbamenem-intermediate resistance mechanism from this transporter alone. Thus, we started complete genome sequencing project of the GAI92214 strain. To date, we determined approximately 99% of the genomic sequence encoding about 4723 ORFs.
