Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we tried to make imaging observation of acoustic waves in the upper atmosphere through OH airglow. Although we could not detect any acoustic-wave signatures in the airglow images obtained during special campaigns in 2016, this study offers valuable insights into the acoustic waves in the upper atmosphere: acoustic waves would induce small (less than 3%) airglow intensity perturbations and/or would be even less likely to propagate into the upper atmosphere compared to gravity waves. Additionally, the low-cost airglow camera developed in this study will greatly help an expansion in ground-based airglow imaging network.
