Outline of Final Research Achievements |
We tried to develop ammonia formation from molecular dinitrogen and dihydrogen under mild reaction conditions based on our previous finding on the catalytic formation of ammonia from molecular dinitrogen by using transition metal-dinitrogen complexes as catalysts. At first, we investigated catalytic oxidation of molecular dihydrogen by using thiolate-bridged diruthenium complexes as catalysts in details. Then, we applied the catalytic oxidation of dihydorgen to the catalytic formation of ammonia from molecular dinitrogen. As a result, we found a stoichiometric amount of ammonia from the reaction of molecular dinitrogen with dihydrogen in the presence of a catalytic amount of the catalysts under ambient reaction conditions. However, further study is necessary to achieve the catalytic formation of ammonia from molecular dinitrogen and dihydrogen under mild reaction conditions.
