Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Many kinds of tumor cells include in tumor tissue. Recent research using immune-deficient mice revealed that tumor initiating cells (TIC) only have a potential to form tumor tissue. However, we proposed that we need to identify TIC in immune-healthy body. Such TIC is authentic TIC which we should realistically focused on. We found that TIC secretes TIC-associated immune cell factors (TICIF). TICIF deficient TIC no longer initiated tumor in immune-healthy body but they nevertheless formed tumor in immune-deficient mice. These results indicated that TIC secreting tumor cells are authentic tumor cells in immune-healthy body.
