Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In 2013, Mt. Fuji was listed by UNESCO as a cultural World Heritage Site (WHS). However, the ICOMOS evaluation criticized the interpretation at the 25 components which should convey Fujisan’s value as a WHS, noting that “existing interpretation (from brochures to panels and plaques) is piecemeal and/or lacks clarity.” Appropriate transmission of the stories of Fujisan’s cultural heritage to the increasing volumes of visitors both domestic and international is one responsibility of a WHS. The research goal of this project is to identify such stories, which could in turn pave the way for an integrated communications strategy vital for tackling visitor impacts and management issues.
