Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The Collection of Horyuji Treasures at the Tokyo National Museum includes approximately 1,000 unsorted textile objects. This research project consisted of examining and categorizing all of these objects. It provided us with an overview of these objects that will allow us to conserve them with more precision. This project also led to the discovery of eight wooden slips dating back to the Asuka period. These slips are of immense historical value because they are the oldest slips in Japan to have been passed down to the present, and because they were without a doubt passed down at Horyuji. We conducted an examination of these slips in cooperation with the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties, reported our findings to the press, and published a research paper.
