The writers in the 1980s and 1990s tend to manifest their political standpoints toward capitalism through their portrayal of ordinary daily lives of the American working-class rather than expressing radical political agendas. Such inclination will be more visible when compared with the proletarian literature in the early twentieth century or the progressive/experimental writings in the 1960s and 1970s. Many working-class fictions and poems in the '80s and '90s are commonly attentive to the material aspect of the working-class experiences, especially the quality of industrially produced food, a further study of which will be needed.
