Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The purpose of this study is to elucidate the lifestyle of inhabitants of urban apartments in Postwar Taiwan. By analyzing official documents, magazine articles and residents’ interviews, this study revealed two facts in public housings. First, architects designed traditional markets for providing a place where inhabitants can own their small businesses. Second, inhabitants built a loft and a raised floor for overcoming problems of narrow space, established temples as religious facilities and places for taking a communication. Elements of "Japanese" and "Chinese" transplanted into people’s living spaces can be thought as a characteristic of urban apartments in Postwar Taiwan.
