Outline of Final Research Achievements |
Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS) with asthma is known as refractory and recurrence-prone disease. In particular, ECRS patients with severe asthma had elevated levels of fractionated exhaled nitric oxide and reduced response to corticosteroids. Corticosteroid sensitivity was reduced in both bronchial epithelial cells located near inflammatory site and peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Impaired proteins (some phosphatases) involved in regulation of glucocorticoid receptor function may be one of mechanisms.
