Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The balance between bone formation and bone destruction is fundamental on the skeletal homeostasis. We found the microRNAs (miRNAs) included in bone matrix vesicles (BMVs), that is specifically derived from bone-forming osteoblasts. Furthermore, it had been uncovered osteoblasts applied BMV as a signal transducer and suppressed the differentiation from macrophages into osteoclasts, bone-absorbing cells. Especially, it was suggested that a certain miRNA, miR-125b involved in BMVs was crucial in this pathway. This study contributes a discovery of a novel mechanism of bone metabolism.
