Outline of Final Research Achievements |
After five-decade military rule, Myanmar made a political transition to "civilian" government in 2011. Although the transition was not a democratization in an academically strict sense, Myanmar's Armed Forces (tatmadaw) had transformed its political role for adjusting the new political setting since then. This research project has examined the transformation from the perspective of tatmadaw's multiple corporate interests such as political authority, economic rent, and normative legitimacy. This project produced some journal articles and book chapters on Myanmar's civil-military relations.
