Research Abstract

1. We have examined the topology and the functions for the fast data acquisition system such as the one needed in the electronpositron collider experiment. We found that the FASTBUS standard proposed by the US-NIM committee meets our requirement.
2. The data acquisition system for TRISTAN experiments has been studied in detail and it has been found that the data tansfer rate should be greater than 8 MB/s and that the event rate should be reduced, by a trigger logic, to a few per second.
3. We have developed hardwares, in accordance with the item 2 above, which enable fast data transfer and triggering :
i) A simplified version of a FASTBUS Segment Interconnect.
ii) A FASTBUS Simplex Segment Interconnect.
iii) A FASTBUS Processor Interface for Eight Bit Microcomputers.
iv) A Track Finding Module for Drift Chambers.
v) A First-Level Trigger decision Module.
We have designed , constructed and tested the electronics modules stated above and found that they function as we expected.
4. The softwares have been developed for driving and testing the FASTBUS modules. They are included in a standard library which can be easily used under the operation system CP/M .
5. A work-shop on data acquisition system has been held at Hiroshima University. Based on the present study, together with the discussions among the contributors, it has been concluded that the FASTBUS is most appropriately used to process and transfer the digital data to the online computer and that another type of data bus is worth examining for the part where the analog data is involved.
