Research Abstract |
The objectives of this study are (1) to contribute to the sociological studies of middle-size city in Japan by comparing social structures and process of community movements of various cities, and (2) to develop the information retrieval system of city data in Japan by using computer and to do a statistical analysis on structures of cities. Under these objectives investigators conducted field researches and comparative studies of Kobe, Sakai and Nagoya. Also investigators did a statistical factor analysis of 105 cities in Japan. Through these studies, the following conclusion attained: Each city's characteristics is primarily decided by the degree of industrialization of that city. However, at the same time, each city has its own historical development, and the factors based on the historical events have modified each city's characteristics.
