Research Abstract |
Our project aims to re-examine the relationship between Europe and the outside world in the history comprehensively. Each investigator has one special theme and the head investigator is responsible for control of special studies. The final report of our project has eleven articles; the results from the geography of the ancient Greeks, the relationship between the Roman Empire and the Dacians, Europeans' knowledge of the world in the period of the Enlightenment and so forth. Today,Europe doesn't play a leading part in the world. This situation has strong influence on views and studies of the European history. Recognizing the importance of this recent trend of historical studies, we try to reconsider the relationship between Europe and the outside world. So,it is one of most important results in this project that we aim to overcome the traditional method of the national history which underestimated the influence of the outside world, and to show some starting points for making a new historical view on Europe.
