Research Abstract |
It is strongly desired to develop a totally implantable artificial heart by which patients can act freely and return to their job, according to the advancement of clinical use of the total artificial heart. The objective of this study is to solve the various basical problems accompanied with the development of totally implantable artificial heart. The following results could be obtained by this three years project. 1. It could be succeeded to survive a goat for 344 days(World longest survival record) by total replacement artificial heart in which the blood pumps were placed on the chest wall. 2. A new implantable blood pump was designed and fabricated, and succeeded to survive a goat for 2 weeks. 3. To eliminate the compliance chamber from totally implantable artificial heart system, various types of compliance chamberless blood pump were designed. A prototype model driven by DC motor was made, which revealed a good performance. 4. A new implantable artificial heart in which silicone oil flow was generated by centrifugal pump as driving force was designed, and its performance and energy transmission efficiency were measured. The next model are constructing by these data. 5. Basical experiment of transcutaneous energy transmission were performed. Relation among shape, size and winding number of the coil, distance between primary and secondary coil, voltage level, frequency and enrgy transmission efficiency were investigated. 6. It could be clarified that nervoussystem would be closely related to the generation of various pathophysiological state in TAH animals. 7. A new automatically controllable driving unit was developed to construct a control logic of artificial heart. 8. A new blood compatibility test method was developed to search new AH material.
