Research Abstract |
1) Clinical severity of the congenital club foot was evaluated. a) Unilateral affected cases was well corrected with conservative manner (90%). 50% of bilateral cases, especially female cases, had tendency to be released surgically. b) The lateral X-ray in passive maximum dorsiflexed, were good for prospect of conservative treatment. The clinical results with conservative treatment were firmly corelated to initial assessment before starting treatment. 2) 3 types of early soft tissue release for congenital clubfoot were cross examined retrospectively and were evaluated after 4-6 years later. a) Posterior release were good for correct equinus but toeing-in gait and forefoot adductus were frequently recognized. Retrospective evaluation of the severity in this group showed relatively mild cases were included in this group. b) Posterolateral release were much better than the other two method especially the correction of toeing-in gait and fore foot adductus. c) Lichtblau's calcaneal head resection were good fore correct the shape of the foot. But the radiologically, irregurality of the calcaneo-cuboidal joint and dorsal subluxation of the cuboid were usual side effect of this method.
