Research Abstract |
In many applications of asphaltic mixtures, its stiffness characteristics must be known not only to assess the behavior of the mixture itself, but also to evaluate the performance of an engineering structure of which the mixture is a part, such as highway or hydraulic structure. In this study, an indirect tension test using a 25.4 mm curved loading strip was adopted to measure the stiffness modulus of mixtures. Following investigations were carried out in this study. a. Measurements of stiffness moduli; in the temperature range of -25[ 40 ゜C, and in the range of loading time of 10[0.3 Hz. b. Fatigue properties of mixtures at -10,-5,0,5,10,15 and 20 ゜C at three loading times. c. Application of indirect tension test to a field specimen. As the results, following conclusions were reached. a. Test is simple and economical. b. The indirect tension test can be used to characterize the mixtures. c. Stiffness modulus in the wide range of temperature and loading time, can be measured in reasonable accuracy. d. Estimation of thermal fracture temperature might be possible.
