Research Abstract |
We have developed an almost ideal information management system on numerical or character-data of genetic resouces. The system is called SIRA/GR (Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research No.486001) and is now intended to be on practical use in the Ministry of Agriculture .Forestry and Fisheries of Japan etc. Among the information about genetic resources, image data is usually more essensial and informal, for example in shapes, colors or ecological situations etc. Moreover, it is comparatively easily obatained and contains information possible to be expressed by numerical or character-data in itself. These features of image data and the development of informational equipments in the recent years motivated us to make a basic study on the image information database system. n and Culture of Japan. The followings are the results. (1) Data including image on several kinds of genetic resouces were collected and recorded. Then the features of these were examined and it was justified that an analogue laser disk unit is realistic for the storage of image data. (2) A hardware system for image database was constracted with an analogue laser disk unit. an image processor, a personal computer and other surrounding devices. A software system which worked on the hardware system and could treat various information, was also made. It was concluded that the combination of the hardware and the software systems was practically usefull after the trial run with the collected data in (1). (3) To make morphometrical or ecometrical analyses on degital image data more precisely, new algorisms and sofware system were developed with a general huge computer system. (4) The views for the future of the handling techniques of image information were given through integrating opinions from breeders and managers of genetic resources. (5) The manual for the system was printed. (6)It is suggested that the transmission of enormous information will be the important subject especlally for the network system to handle image data in the near future. Less
