Research Abstract |
Melon cv. Bonasu was cultivated by 12 Sandponics bed (W60cm L10m D7cm) systems. Each bed was irrigated by microtube type drip hose and was covered by the three kinds of mulching materials; black, white and silver color polyethylene film showed the best effects. The growth of melon plants improved with black film, and the sugar content of black film showed the highest value of 14.7%. Snadponics was able to save irrigation water ca.80% compared with a common cultivated method. Transpiration, photosynthesis water use efficiency, Leaf conductance and intercellular <CO_2> concentration were measured under several kinds of meteorogical conditions.i.e., air temperature, relative humidity (RH) and light intensity.
