Research Abstract |
An improved method for measurement of subcutaneous fat thickness using an A-mode type ultrasonic device has been developed by this Head Investigator et al.,so that the practical uses for public health activities have been held during three years. The results are wound up as following two items: 1) In order to set up the standard of the thickness of subcutaneous fat layer by sex, age and locations of body, the investigators measured 1477 male and 1933 female who consist of aged 0 to 79 years old. Mean,standard deviation ,minimum and maximum value were reported here. 2) In order to estimate body fat mass using the data of subcutaneous fat thickness by ultrasonic measurement, detail careful measurement of 50 samples has been held by the investigators, and set up the estimation formula for the body-fat-mass which are tested statistically in the significance level less than 5%. It will be able to get criteria of obesity or standard distribution of subcutaneous fat thickness in Japnese population in very near future.
