Research Abstract |
<I> Rearing and reproduction Picas: Rearing and reproduction are proceeding well. In 1985, 201 animals were supplied to 13 research institutes. As an experimental animal, one feature of the pica is the possibility of its use as a model for autoimmune diseases and the development of strains with such characters has started. Volcano rabbits: To establish planned production as a second step in the development of this animal as an experimental animal, wild volcano rabbits were introduced from Mexico last year, but no improvement in reproducibility was seen this year. <II> Investigation of characteristics and usefulness An investigation of the biological characteristics and usefulness of the pica and volcano rabbit in the field of bioscience was carried out from 1983 to 1985 by research in CIEA and other cooperative institutes. The results of this study will be published this year.
