Research Abstract |
A helium accumulation method applied to neutron dosimetry is useful means to measure a fast-neutron fluence in a high-flux neutron field. In the present project, hard-ware and soft-ware for the method have been developed. The number of helium atoms produced by (n,x <alpha> ) reactions should be absolutely measured in this method. A helium-ion-implanted sample method has been developed as a new calibration technique. The number of implanted helium ions can be determied by measuring the current of ions. This is particularly useful for the absolute calibration in the lower concentration range of helium atoms in the sample gas than the atomspheric pressure. The surface of the helium-ion-implanted samples were observed with a scanning electron microscope. Blisters and flakes were found on them above 4 x <10^(17)> He atoms/ <cm^2> . Re-emission rate of helium from the sample has been measured as functions of times, ion fluence and temperature. The cross section of Al(n,x <alpha> ) at 14 MeV has been measured with the helium accumulation method.
