Research Abstract |
This research was made by 30 peoples living in the Kanto, Kansai and Kyusyu districts, who are experts in the fields of family law, social law, family sociology, social welfare, psychology and family relations. We did research into the relationships and problems of today's families from 3 aspects:-divorce, problems of the aged and juvenile delinquency. In 1984 and '85, we made several investigations into these problems. We sent out seperate questionaires to do with each of the afore mentioned aspects, so that we could understand thier genaral problems. We then interviews with some families from each group. From the latter, we gained a deeper understanding of their problems. The questionaires and interviews were as follows: Divorce - questionaires were given to 760 women at large and interviews were had with 200 divorced men and women. Problems of aged - questionaires to 630 aged people and interviews with 60 of them. Juvenile delinquency - questionaires to 208 juvenile delinquents and 4

48 youth at large, interviews with 103 parents of juvenile delinquents. In 1986, we asked professionales e.g. lawyers, social workers etc. for their advice on how all these problems could be solved. 92 professionales were questioned about divorce, 429 about the aged and 49 about juvenile delinquency. From all of the above (questionaires, interviews etc.), we obtained the following results: The functional disorders of today's families are caused mainly by the lack of communication within the family, especially between hasband and wife and father and children. Regrettably, in today's world, the help afforded these people is not enough. Also, the communication between the various systems involved in helping them is poor, so therefore can't deal adequetely with these problems. As a result, we propose the establishment of a "Total Counsel Center for Family Relations" to deal adequately with any family problem. (The results were anounced at the first University and Science symposium in Tokyo. Please read the enclosed research deta.) Less
