Research Abstract |
1. COLLECTION OF MATERIALS We have purchased 242 volumes of materials during the period of the grant-in-aid. Especially, backnumbers of most of the major important archaeological yearbooks which are published by the archaeological institutes in US, England, France and Germany have been collected. In addition some of the old excavation reports for the important archaeological sites, which are mostly out-of-print in present, have come into our possession in microfilm negatives with the courtesy of libraries in European countries. 2. DRAWING FILE SYSTEM All the architectural drawings in the materials were copied in A4 size sheets and filed alphabetically from site to site. By this file system we would be able to consult drawings which are needed for our study more easily without taking original volumes in hand. On every drawing is referred to the title of the original volume and therefore we can retrieve the original drawing any time if necessary. There are almost 15,000 drawings in this file system at present. 3. DOCUMENT DATA BASE FOR THE ANCIENT MEDITERRANEAN STUDY All the documents on the ancient Mediterranean study, including monographs, excavation reports, articles in archaeological yearbooks, etc., are recorded in microcomputer with their authors, titles, name of magazines, volume number and pages. Approximately 31,000 documents have been recorded so far, some of them with keywords which show the content. By this system we can search with ease for necessary materials in the keies of author, word in the title, content, etc. 4. REPORT OF THE STUDY The members of the project wrote 37 research papers in total for journals during this period of grant. All these papers were published together in one volume. In addition, almost 15,000 documents in five major archaeological yearbooks from the Document Data Base are listed in alphabetical sequence of authors in this report.
