Research Abstract |
The Community Periodontal Index of Treatment Needs (CPITN) was examined to assess the periodontal status and treatment needs in the 822 employees of two banks in Tokyo. The analyzed information indicated that over 90 percent of subjects suffered from periodontal diseases in various degrees. Periodontal status of 1195 female students of Sendai city aged between 12 and 17 was investgated. 85 percent of the subjects had some kinds of periodontal diseases and were required toaccept periodontal treatment(TN <I> - <II> ). As a result, it is recognized that the periodontal disease in indastrial workers of Aichi Prefecture may be controled by oral hygiene instruction and scaling in younger age groups and by a combination of professional and personal care in age groups above 30. In Enoshima, one of small islands in Nagasaki Prefecture, to investigate the oral state. The results were as follows: The average number of missing teeth in middle and upper age bracket in inhabitants in Enoshima increased rapidly with age and was much higher than the mean value of the Japanese. As a result by dental radiographs on 972 outpatients of Niigata Dental Hospital. bone destruction increased with increusing age. In psychopathic patients of Yamanashi Ryoyojo, the degree of periodontal disease were higher than mentally normal adults. It sugest that the motivation to plaque control will be useful to treatment of psychopathy.
