Research Abstract

Sugar cane industry is driven into a corner by over production, popularization of sweat materials and decreasing of consumption. In order to solve this problem, it is essential to develop some extensive system to obtain materials of high supplementary value from all part of the sugar cane. In this point of view, following fundumental element technologies those can be applied to that system were studied.
1. High molecular fraction in the sugar cane juice was separated by several kind of ultra filtration membranes to obtain bio-active materials such as enzime or polysaccharide befor condensation. (M.Tako)
2. Several kind of glucosidase were separated and refined from the above high molecular fraction, and distribution of those glucosidase in the sugar cane body was investigated. (I.Chinen)
3. Reverse osmosis membrane was applied to condense sugar cane juice, intending to obtain surplus bagasse which can be used as new industrial material instead of using as fuel. (S.Kishihara)
4. Organic solvent method which will not invite enviromental pollution to obtain pulp from the bagasse was tried. However, higher quality of pulp than that by PA method was not obtained. (S.Yaga & S.Kawachi)
5. Cattle feed was obtained from the bagasse by sodium hydrooxide delignin method. Some kind of cellulase were effective to saccharify the bagasse and to produce alcohol as pre-treatment. (N.Toyama)
6. Anaerobic fermentation of bagasse in the field soil to obtain manure was tried. However, no signicance in effectiveness of this direct manuring was observed. (H.Shimoda)
7. A total utilization system of the sugar cane involving other plants and combined with other industries was composed and proposed. (Y.Kohda & T.Akinaga)
