Research Abstract |
The main objective of this project is to attain a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic processes of excited molecules by means of the multi-photon ionization of photofragments using a new crossed-beam apparatus called "Perfectron". Owing to the characteristic features of the Perfectron (i.e., the perfect focusing mass as well as energy analyzing properties, the conformal mapping property, Doppler-free measuring scheme, a measuring geometry under Jacobian=1 which saves laboratory to center-of-mass transformation, and so on), we were able to measure the following items with a very high accuracy that was hardly expected to obtain with other conventional photofragment spectroscopic techniques: 1) Measurements of laser excess energy partitioned into translational and internal degrees of freedom of the recoiled fragments. 2) Determinations of the symmetries and life-times of intermediate states in two photon dissociation processes by means of the anisotropy factors. 3) Measurements of the fragmentation of organic compounds, especially through a superexcited states.
