Research Abstract |
There have been many studies concerning refractory linnings and bricks because of the indispensable materials to pyrometallurgy. Much still remains to be done for the quantitative comparison and the generalization of the results. The present work contains an experiment concerning the infiltration of a molten slag into slagging refractory bricks, porous composites, 4 kinds of measurements for the quantitative characterization of the porous properties, and a phenomeno-logical observation about the wetting behavior of the slag onto refractories. The observations prove the uselessness of the conventional interpretation. The results induce the origination of a new approach to the quantitative description of the slagging capillarity in consideration of both the reactivity and the viscousness of the slag. The new interpretation has been generalized to the unified expressions applicable even for a connected pore system, so that the satisfactory explaination can be presented to the experimental observations in the practical bricks through the results of the various basic measurements. The conclusion, thus, suggests the possibility for the anticipative estimation of the real complicate phenomenon out of the material natures concerned.
