Research Abstract |
This report is the results of our joint research work on the food problems in European History. Firstly the main theme of this project was posed by the head investigator, following that contributors reported the results of their studies. The following are subjects of contributors. (1) "Introduction : Supply and Consumption of Food as a Factor of History" (T.Horii) attempts to decide periods by the supply and consumption of food. (2) "Restriction of the Distribution of Foos and the Assemblies - A Case of Langudoc during the 13th Century"(A.Egawa) analyses the situation of food market of medieval Europe. (3) "Food and Disease - Standards of Living in England during the Industial Revolution"(M.Kawakita) debates on effects of the industrialisation to the standards of living and the diseases of the working classes, based on the data of 18th and 19th England. (4) "The Zollunion between Austria and Hungary in 1850"(G.Hirozane) analyses the contribution of the Zollunion to the stabilisation of food supply for Wien and the Ausgleich of Austria-Hungary. (5) "Industrialisation and Food in the modern Germany"(N.Minami) reports the changes of the eating habits under the rapid industrialisation of 19th century Germany.
