Research Abstract |
It is a serious problem for overseas students who are interested in Japanese science and technology that learning Kanji is very time-consuming. Most of them cannot spare enough time for Kanji learning because Japanese language is not their first concern. Although writing Kanji by hand is time-consuming, writing them on keyboard by 2-stroke method is not. We have adopted this method for inputting Japanese Language to the computer and developed a CAI system for teaching Japanese language, including learning Kanji. By this approach, writing Kanji becomes several times more efficient and increase of using Kanji by the learner is expected to make learning easier. However, trial use of the CAI system showed that proficiency in keyboarding is required for the learner and we have concentrated our research into efficient keyboard training methodology. We have obtained a good result in this regard.
