Research Abstract |
(1) ADJUSTMENT STRUCTURES and (2) PREDICTORS OF ADJUSTMENT PROCESS in three cohorts from the 1984-entrant to the 1986-entrant are examined by follow-up questionnaire method. (3) GENOTYPUS OF IMPROVING PROCESS FROM MALADJUSTMENT are explored by socialpsychological case study method. Adding to these, it is examined (4) HOW THE STATES OF ADJUSTMENT HAS BEEN CHANGING FOR THE DECADE from 1977 to 1986. Main findings are as follows. (1) Adjustment feeling is always related to both an acceptance of one's position in university organization and an active attitude toward close relationships with friends. Though the ajusted has differenciated lifespace structure, the maladjusted shows withdrawal from interpersonal contacts and outer world. (2) <i> )Acceptance of one's position and smooth relationships with friends predict higfer adjustment at the later times. nd/3rd grade. <ii> )Nevertheless, predicabilities of the ego-peripherality of accademic activities, extracurricular activities or relationships with friends, and the motivation for them in the adjusted differ from those in the maladjusted. <iii> )Positive attitudes toward accademic activities and reference to family predict the high attainments of school work. But, satisfaction with one's position and one's own self predicts the lower them. (3) Three typus of improvement are found: a. Ego-nuclear reference to a new group accepting the same position, with which one dissatisfied. b. Finding out a channel that could develop one's supressed interest in another majar. c. Acquiring a new referent group when one is going to implement the activities wished to do. (4) Following 4 attitudes become more positive in this decade: satisfaction with one's position, motivation for accademic activities, that for extra-curricular activities and that for relationships with friends.
