Research Abstract |
Plantago asiatica L. in Japan islands can be roughly classified into two different ecotypes. One is a summer green type (Type-I) which becomes to dormant state under photoperiod of short-day at low temperature, and the other is a ever green type (Type-II) which continues to grow under the same conditions. We compared the patterns of the zymograms of 9 different isozymes of seedling of seeds collected from the various sites in Japan islands. As a results, we could not find any marker isozyme to use for the classification of two types of Plantago asiatica. Comparative studies on materials partitioning between sub- and terresterenean parts of seedling of different types of Plantago asiatica were performed in this project. In Type-I plants, a considerable amounts of soluble proteins in terresterenean part moved to and accumulated in subterresterenean part during the progress of dormancy. Conditions for the isolation of protoplasts from leaves of Plantago asiatica were also investigated.
