Research Abstract |
The purpose of this report is to investigate the changing market for company-houses in Kitakushu by focusing in detail on the changing conditions of supply and demand for such housing in Yahata-area. 1.From 1971 to 1984, in Kitakushu city, about 6,400 company-houses disappered. 2.Within Kitakushu city, the Yahata-area contains the most company-houses, and 48% of all the company-houses in Kitakushu city. 3.The two large companies have 80% of all the company-houses in Kitakushu. Shinnitetsu(Nippon-Steel-company) has 68.1%, and Mitsubishi Kasei has 14.2%. 4.In several, number of company-houses in Kitakushu is decreasing. Company-houses owned by steel companies are decreasing at nearly twice the general rate. 5.Now there are about 17,000 company-houses in Kitakushu city in a city such as Kitakushu, whose large industrial base is the process of being transformed. Most of those appling for company-house are workers in manufacturing industries. Their income is higher and their relative ages are older, compared with workers from other kinds of industry.
