Research Abstract

Recently in Japan, small-sized forestry vehicles are widely used especially for logging operations in private forest. The purpose of this study is to design forestry vehicles with a prehauling function employing a simple running-skyline cable system for improving prehauling operations. The outlines of the results obtained from this study are summarized as follows;
1) The desired effect of prehauling using a cable system and the design conditions demanded for the equipment were investigated by analyzing the prehauling operations of small-sized forestry vehicles and the results of tests of a simple running-skyline cable system. The effect of prehauling using a cable system might be achieved especially in forwarder-type vehicles. On the other hand, in skidder-type vehicles, such as effect might only be obtained in the prehauling of small-sized timber. The desired specifications of winch attached to forestry vehicles would be as follows; Number of drum, two drums; winch rope capacity, 200 m; winch rope speed, 1 m/s.
2) The logging test was performed in the use of the testing set, to obtain the fundamental data for designing a double-drum winch. From the measurement of the variation of the tension appearing on a wire rope and the logging test in the thinning stand, it is confirmed that the interlocking device to which the V-belt speed variator is applied is an effect method for pulling logs in the stable state of semi-suspension.
3) The outlines of the double-drum winch which make up main parts of the hauling set were designed. Two kinds of logs; a thinned log and a final cut log, were presumed as to the design condition of logs.
