Research Abstract |
On the forest tree growth and its utilization, to study relationship between silvicultural technique and wood quality is an urgent and important subject. Then, variations of the tree growth and wood quality in relation to the thinning of the Larch tree stand was investigated. The results obtained by this investigation are as follows; 1. Effects of the tree growth in relation to the thinning. Ring width increased owing to the high thinning rate from 53% to 43% But the increse of it could not be recognised the low thinning rate 22%, and the thinning is appeared to be important to prevent the decrease of ring width. 2.Effects of eccentric growth and occurrence of compression wood in relation to the thinning. As for ten sampled trees with different thinning rate, eccentric growth were from 1.40 to 0.69, and there was no thinning effects. A lot of the compression wood occured in these sampled trees, but influence of the thinning was not recognized. 3. Variation of wood quality in relation to the thinning. The bulk density (specific gravity in air-dry), late wood percentage and compression strength were increased outward from pith to cambium. The best quality of larch wood was obtained when the thinning rate 43%, the second high quality was obtained at 53%, and the worst quality was obtained at 30% and zero, respectivelly. Therefore, to get excellent wood quality of Larch moderate thinning rate is important.
