Research Abstract |
In order to conserve color on various cultural properties, examination and recording of deterioration of color are performed and developed as well as fixing and re-adhering treatment for the color. (1)X-ray deffraction method was employed for identifying the pigments which were used by a painter for national important wooden building, and found that two different pigments are used with one name depending on the works. (2)Raking light apparatus was developed and a first model for practical use was made up. The apparatus projects parallel light beam with fixed angle and even light value at any point of a flat object, and gives ideal lighting condition for taking photo of recording damaged color layer. (3) Red lead color on wood was examined after artificial aging by weathering chamber, to know the minimum concentration of animal glue in which the red lead color started peeling after the aging. It was confirmed that color layer which was prepared with acrylic resin as a medium, showed good durability in its high concentration. (4)Degree of discoloration was measured on three pigments on wood which were traditionally used by painters for wooden building. (5)The ratio of hydroxy-proline to other amino-acid contained in three kinds of animal glue, was found to indicate the source of the glue. (6)The condition of color on wooden member of shrines and temples were surveyed. Paintings on paper of sliding door and a wooden ornament were examined for remained color layers.
