Research Abstract |
1. AIM OF THE PROJECT: It was the aim to do within three years beginning in 1984, a basic experimental study for computer processing of source materials relative to Japanese history and to develope some systems to build up data bases with this scope and actually produce some data bases for selected catalogs and indices already compiled and/or under compilation. 2. RESULTS OF THE PROJECT: (1) The following systems have been developed: a) one master file of all the normal first and second JIS level and extended kanji characters bearing their kana readings; b) another master file of Japanese lunar dates including those of "intercalary months" and "thereabouts (koro)" to be converted to Western in eleven figures; and c) a loborsaving input system for duplicating immediately and frequently used terms by means of picture control. (2) The following individual data base system were developed for; a) indexing to terms in the published Dai-Nippon Shiryo and medieval diaries; b) extracting of paragraphs of around 100 words in the published Ishin Shiryo Koyo and Shiryo Soran by keywords; c) producing by personal computer N5200/05 Mk II various medium and small size catalogs and indices. (3) The data bases for the following materials were created: a) Those for selected years (985, 1025-26, and 1118-19) of the Heian period in the DNS covering 25,000 items, those for an unified index to Mansai Jugo Nikki (1411-35) and Kanmon Nikki (1416-48), 70,000 items, and those for the period 1862-63 in Vol. 4 of ISK, 3,000 itmes (30,000 keywords) were produced by the office computer; b) a file of the titles of the criteria in the manuscript DNS for the year 1416, that of a catalog of 917 Imperial messages (rinji and inzen) printed in Kamakura Ibun, and that of an index to Diary of Jan van Elserack, 1641-42 were produced by the personal computer.
