Research Abstract |
BET (Brast Erosion Test) was conducted on plasma-sprayed <Al_2> <O_3> -Ti <O_2> system coatings in order to evaluate precisely mechanical properties of their coatings. The BET results were compated with Hardness test and scratch test results. The brast-erosion mechanism of ceramic coatings was certified by obserbing of blast erosion phenomena and measuring of brast erosion rate at various brast angles. The experimental erosion rate with variety of brast angle was coincident with brast erosion rate calculated by using fatigue propagation model. The brast erosion of ceramic coatings was caoused by fatigue crack propagation produed between ceramic coated particles by impact force of brast particles. It is possible to evaluate the layer binding force of ceramic particles in coatings by measuring the brast erosion rate. Moreover, there was a good relation between brast erosion rate and hardness for various ceramic coatings. By scratch test, the limit scratch lord for fracture of ceramic coatings was obtained and the value showed the layer binding strength of ceramic coatings.
