Research Abstract |
1. Three species of Dianthus, four cultivars of Gypsophilla paniculata and four vegetative lines of G.paniculata'Bristol Fairy' with different chilling requirement were used for the observation of flowering response in 10 region(from Okinawa to Aomori) and the statistical analysisis of the data. (1)Dianthus: Several basic temperatures were set up to investigate the correlation of growth and flowering and the hours exposed to lower temperature than the basic temperature. In one season flowering species, the number of flowered shoot increased with the hours of chilling exposure, however, when the plants got more chilling exposure, this relationship was reversed. The correlation of the flowering shoot number and the hours of chilling exposure till the flower budding period was compared among all basic temperature. Two one season flowering species showed the peak of the correlation at the basic temperature 4C,and it was recognized that the amount of chilling exposure which promote the most effect

ively for flowering was 900 or 1000 hours of chilling exposure under 4C.In one perpetual flowering species,it was recognized that the temperature region under 3C or abave 18C inhibited growth and flowering. The forecast formulas of the flowering time for three species were got from the estimated values of amount of chilling exposure for release from dormancy and the time of release from dormancy. 2. G.Paniculata: In the first experiment, the time of release form dormancy was estimated by paalication of Chill Unit.In the second experiment, the time of shoot tip thickning was estimated as the basic time to investigate the correlation of growth and flowering and temperature. The multple correlation of amount of time exposured to 0 10C and above 15C from the pinching day to the day which all nodes initiate and mean node number of each plant was investigated, and amount of chilling requirement was computed.Every line of 'Bristol Fairy' initiated approximately same node number and had approximately same chilling requirement. And it was noticed that the stronger was the chilling requirement of some vegetative line the easier it was revernalized.Above mentiond informations will become the inportant foundermental materials to connect various species, caltivars and vegetative lines and cultivation tipe in various regions which have different weather condition or in different cultivation period. 3. Each investigator of ten region illuminated some problems of cultivation and developed some cultivation tecniques. Less
