Research Abstract |
Water management studies for several representative large river basins in Japan were done in order to develope a new water management system that is suitable for the future agricultural administration, from the view point of social and invironmental condition. And the results were summarized as follows. 1. The water management system is largely influenced by the social and hydrological patterns of each river basin, and these patterns could be divided into several classes. 2. The Water utilization system was considered to consist of two systems. One is the system which is regarded as all water structures throughout the water distribution and drainage system from the scheme level to the farm level in the actual irrigation scheme. And the other one is the system for management, operation and maintenance of the above irrigation and drainage facilities by an appropriate organization. 3. In each river basin, there has been an interdependency between the system of water structures and their management system. And it also clarified that the above mutual relationship between two systems has been changing as historical dynamics. 4. Future objective of water management system should be established from the view point that water management in each river basin is independent, and for this reason, the water management is regarded as a complete expression of characteristics for each river basin.
