Research Abstract |
A new system for measure of pressure distribution under the foot has been developped. The measurement system is consist of 1) sensor matrix ( 1cm X 1cm rubber sensor, 24 X 40 pieces = 960 pieces) 2) amplifier 3) personal computer ( PC-9801vm2 ). Each sensor has the accuracy 20g/ <cm_2> ( range from 450g/ <cm_2> to 2500g/ <cm_2> ). Pick up speed of the system is 10 frames/second. Using this new system, following clinical researches have been performed. 1) Several kinds of foot deformities have been assessed using this system. The dynamic pressure distribution under the foot were good indicators for assessing abnormalities and disablities in such cases ( RA, cavus foot etc. ). 2) Simultaneous measurement of this system and forceplate measure is possible without influencing the results for each others. 3) Measurement of pressure distributions under the bottom in sitting posture is also possible. This system is useful for assessing several kinds of sitting abnormalities. This system has some limitations because of the sensors are elastic rubber. On the other hand, the developping and performing cost is relatively cheep. We believe this system is good for clinical use especially in foot surgery and in rehabilitational engineering.
