Research Abstract

1. Development of Word Processor
The purpose of this study was to develop an inexpensive, portable word processor for physically handicapped children. TOSWARD JW-1H was selected as a prototype in this project.
On the basis of motion analysis of handicapped children, the following considerations were taken into account:
1) functional keys in both sides to compensate left and right upper limb disabilities. 2) extending a cord for use by legs. 3) extending mobility of display. 4) identical coloring of the shift keys and special keys. 5) solid keybord cover to avoid mis-key in. 6) arranging keys in Kana order or alphabetical order. 7) special system disk allowing a selection of cursor shift speed.
2. Training Manual
This manual consists of two parts: beginner's part and advanced part. Each part comprises of small steps for mastery of the use of the word processor.
