Research Abstract |
One of the main purpose of the group for research on magnetic fluid was to organize the 4th International Conference on Magnetic Fluids. Activities of the group have been crowned with great success. The papers presented in the conference was published in Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials Vol.65(1987),173-445, as the proceedings of the conference. The amount of presentation concerned with the research project in our group reached 15. Also, the members of the group played leading parts in the internal meeting of magnetic fluid engineering held in December 1987 and carried out a summary of research for 2 years. The results concerned with this research project are as follows: (1) In the research field of the preparation and properties of magnetic fluids, a preparation method of a magnetic fluid composed of metalic particles which have excellent properties drew attention. Also, the studies of aggromeration phenomenon of magnetic particles in a strong magnetic field and an optical characteristic of a particle have been advanced. (2) In the field of the fundamental studies of the magnetic fluid dynamics, new governing equation system of magnetic fluid was proposed. Also, it would be noticed that the possibility of new developments of magnetic fluid dynamics has been raised since the research into the steady and unsteady flow characteristics in a pipe and the instability of fluid surface has remarkably progressed. (3) In the field of the applications of magnetic fluids, fruitful results have been obtained regarding the improvement of the performance of magnetic fluid seals. In addition, new progresses were reported in the applications of the magnetic fluid such as damper, actuator, grinding device, energy coversion system development and medical treatment.
