Research Abstract |
As the basic research on the laser angioplasty the following study have been performed; 1)Irradiating method, 2)The configuration of fiber end, 3)What kind of laser is suitable for laser angioplasty, 4)The development of laser probe, 5)Analysis of laser reactions against atheroma and thrombus, 6)Photodynamic therapy(PDT). And obtained the following results. 1. Contact irradiation method was better than non contact one, because thermal burn to wall of artery was less and the surface of ablated area was more smooth in contact method. Irradiating energy was about 1.5W using argon laser for ablation of atheroma and thrombus in contact method. 2. Round shaped end of laser fiber could prevent from perforation of artery. Contact chips were developed to design contact end of laser probe. Ceramic chips was better than metal chip in ablation of atheroma and thrombus. YAG laser with 20-35W was suited for contact chips. 3. Laser probe which had contact ceramic chip was developed. As the maximum diameter of this probe is 1.8mm, so the obstructed area could be seen before irradiation by using the endoscope which has the same diameter. 4. In the experiment of ablation of atheroma, thrombus was formed at the ablated area just after irradiation, which changed to fiblin like substance after 48 hours, and healed after 2 weeks. And, obstructed artery by organized hard thrombus could ablated by the probe with contact ceramic chip and smooth hole of about 2mm in diameter could be made. 5. The experiment of PDT is now being performed.
