Research Abstract |
This study discusses the guidelines for items of respiratory functions to be evaluated timing of evaluation, content of exercise and its period, training of the patirnt, etc.,in order to develop, easily and efficiently, the individual respiratory exercise programmes based on approriate judgements of the patient's respiratory functions and prevailing psychological and social environment. The study further applies the guidelines to real-life cases, and seeke to demonstrate effectiveness and useful-ness of the guidelines. First, a research on practices for patients under grneral aresthetic operations and the nursing intervention there to was carried out at five university hospitals. An examlnation regarding the emergence and prevention of postoperative pulmonary complication took place at the same time, Second, using respiratory function measurement devices(transcutaneous blood gas monitor, and auto spirometor), an assessment of incentive spirometry aimed at prevention of postoperative plumonary complications was undertaken, together with an assessment of the effect of preoperative and postoperative respiratory exercises. Furthermore, psychological and social aspects that may bear influences on the exercising operative patients were studied. On the basis of the results of the above, the guidelines for nursing program of indivedual respiratory exercises to prevent postoperetive pulmonary compllcations was drawn, and its application handbook written. The content of the Guideline is as follows: 1. Assessment (assessment of patient's physical conditions-risks in 3 levels, and that of the patient's preoprtative psychological disposition): 2. Choices of Indevedual Program of Respiratory Exercises-Bacic & Advanced; 3. Application of the Respiratory Exercise Program (choice of the programmes and timing of training, use of pamphlet.check list); and 4. Review/Evaluation of the Exercised program (points to be evaluated and timing of evaluation).
